Between doctors and song

Hello! I wish this post contained something happy to talk about, but it is other wise. I have not been able to post anything lately because we have been into a lot of doctor appointments and hospitals. it is a difficult time for our little family, our child Sofia seems to have hearing problems. We started noticing that she was having ear pain since she touches her ears constantly. We took her to her pediatrician a long time ago, but he said it was nothing. But the cries and ear touching continued until the pain caused Sofia to wake up in the middle of the night constantly. I did not know what to do. Sofia's great-grandmother told us to take her into the same otorrinolaringologist as they had taken her grand-kids. We did so on Tuesday and that kind doctor removed a lot of old earwax that had solidified inside my baby's ear canal. It was too inside to remove with an q-tip, so he used a long needle. He kept removing this brown looking thing from my baby's ear, until it was clean. The doctor said that that old earwax was almost a year old and was causing her pain and probably blocked 25% of the noise out of her ear. She should hear us better now and maybe even start talking. That day, we got home exhausted, but relieved. Our baby was not in pain anymore. But now there are many tests to be made, many more visits to the doctors. There is a big chance she might have a hearing problem, but we cannot know for sure until they run more tests. For now we are grateful that she hears better, and her ears don't hurt her anymore. She loves listening to music and singing, so im sure she is not completely deaf. I'm placing everything in God's hands, as always and in my heart I know everything will be all right.
But for now, no craft, no art. But as soon as things settle I will be inspired again to create.

  1. Oh no- I am so sorry. I just went through the exact same thing with my daughter who is 8. It has taken about 4 months to get it all figured out but it looks like ear wax ans ear infections were the cause for my daughter. She still needs to be retested but they are pretty sure that her hearing is back to normal and she should be fine. I am sure the same thing will turn out for your sweet daughter. It is incredibly sad to think about our children being disabled in any way but keep your chin up. I think it will be fine ;-)

  2. I'm so sorry - I know how hard it is to watch your baby go through that kind of pain at the doctor's (even just the fear of the doctors is hard enough). they had to remove a TON of earwax build-up from Marley's ears too - seemed traumatic and possibly a bit painful; but she was much better after. I hope little Sofia is feeling/hearing better.

Definitely the fact that she loves music/singing is a good sign.

We had to take Marley to the doc's yesterday for a dislocated elbow! It's called Nursemaid's Elbow - daddy was playing too rough...that was definitely tough to be strong mommy for.

    All the best,
    Tara

  6. Oh that is awful, it really shows how lazy some doctors are as that first doctor should have checked this first and trusted you in your suggestion. It makes me so mad as its such a common thing these days, that doctors ignore patients. I hope that everything will turn out positive from all these tests.

  10. Im so sorry about your baby. I hope she gets well soon. A woman who helps my mum with cleaning; her step daughter is 4 and has just had a really successful heart operation and is on the way to recovery, so if your daughter gets that far there is hope and she will get better :) Good luck x

  14. Oh dear. how precious your little on is. I felt so awful for you all. Ear pain is one of the worst to cope with, your daughter bless her!
The doctor saying she's fine and leaving her this way. This made me mad. So pleased you took her to see a different doctor.
I will keep my fingers crossed and your little one will be in our prayers.

    Huge hug!

  18. Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes! It means so much to me that I can share something that is somewhat personal and still get great reactions, I'm glad to say Sofia is better now and since her visit to the specialist she is having no more ear pain. She has reacted positively to what the doctor did (removing crap from her ear) and has even started to speak more and more clearly. She can hear better now and for that I am grateful.
