Sketch #1 and #2

Its Thursday, so you are probably expecting a finished work of art. Sadly I'm working overstuffed with work! But I did get some "art" done today.
For a Poetry class we are supposed to make physical interpretation of a poem of our choice. I chose a poem by Juan Antonio Corretjer who was born and raised in my hometown of Ciales. Sadly its in Spanish and I'm afraid if I translate it, it will loose its beauty.
My idea for this final project is to make a sculpture of the image I envisioned when I read the poem. Here are some sketches, I'm not sure which I will pick since it has to be lightweight and portable. I was thinking of making it out of paper-mache, to keep the costs down.
This project is still in the planning face, so if yo got any ideas on making it portable, lightweight and cheap to make, please leave it in a comment.

Monday's Inspiration: A whimsical Home

I have been dreaming about moving to a more comfortable place for a few weeks, I have just been told that the apartment I was interested in will be available soon. I also got a job offer that I'm going to take, so you can guess how ecstatic I am. I'm dreaming about freshly painted walls, new furniture and new linens. I keep finding inspiration for the new apartment on ImgFave, there are some whimsical rooms there! Enough words, now on to pictures!

I want a dinning room like this.
I want a craft room like this one.
I want walls this color.
I want my room to look as cozy as this.

I'm still thinking about color palettes and "vibes" for my dream apartment. Do you have any favorite pictures of dream houses? Please share them if you do!

Stove Top Pizza

Yesterday I was craving a pizza, a fresh crispy pizza. None of that frozen stuff they dare call pizza. I wanted the real deal, but sadly I don't own an oven. So looked for a way to make a fresh pizza without an oven or a microwave. I read somewhere that in India they make pizzas in cast iron skillets. I decided to give it a go and it worked!
Slice and serve!

To make the crust:
2 1/2 cups of flour
1 pinch of salt
2 3/4 tsp. baking powder
2/3 cup to 1 cup of water
1 tsp. olive, canola, peanut or vegetable oil

1- In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder and salt. Add the oil. Gradually add the water while you mix the ingredients, mix until you can form a ball with the mixture. Mixture should not be sticky.
2-Knead over a floured surface for a few minutes, between 3-4 minutes.
Knead the doug for a few minutes
3- Grease your skillet, I suggest using a cast iron skillet because it distributes the heat better, but I sud a non-stick pan and it worked too. You can use whatever you like ffor greasing, I used PAM Baking spray.
4- Roll out your dough and place it on the skillet, like a pie crust leaving some crust for the borders. I dont have a roller, so I used a big jar.
roll out the dough
5- Now fill your pizza with the ingredients you prefer. My veggie pizza has tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, green peppers, onions, a bit of grated Parmesan cheese and parsley.
fill with your favorite toppings
6- Place on the stove in low heat, you want the cheese to melt and the veggies to soften before the crust gets toasted.
Place on Low heat
7- Cover your pizza and let cook from 10 to 20 minutes depending on the thickness of your crust. Mine were pretty thin so it took about 10 minutes. I brushed a little of butter on the crust that showed on the top so it would look more golden.
cover and let cook for 10-20 mins
almost ready!
8- Now that it's done, just take out of the fire, slice and enjoy!
Slice and serve!

Have a good weekend!

Easy Body Sugar Scrub

This is the short and easy tutorial that was due Tuesday but due to technical problems, I was not able to post. And here it is.
I love a good bath after a hard day, there is something about a good scrub that makes me feel better, cleaner. I like to keep it chemical-free, so I use this recipe.

Body and Face Sugar Scrub
You need:
-Sugar, preferably brown sugar.
-oil of your choice, I used organic 100% virgin olive oil.
- a jar to keep your scrub in, with a lid, I used a baby food jar.

Fill the bottom of the jar with oil.
Fill the rest of the jar with sugar leaving enough room to mix.
Add something for scent, if you want: I added almond essential oil to mine.
Do not add anything that contains alcohol or chemicals.
Use it as a scrub with a bath pouf or a washcloth.

As soon as my machine is fixed will make a bath pouf from Disney's tutorial:

Monday's Inspiration: Books

Im glad to finally be able to post again! If feels like a long time has gone by, but its only because I have been very busy with many things. But lets leave that all aside for now and immerse ourselves in this week's inspiration: books.
Books are very important to me, I'm a Literature major in the University of Puerto Rico. I find comfort and entertainment in book. You can find anything in a book; love, dreams, hope, anything. Now let's look at pretty pictures!
I love the smell of old books, it smells like history.
A book can let your dreams soar into the place where anything is possible.
Sometimes I feel like Matilda, I can just vanish behind a book.

I will dream I own a gypsy caravan and roam the world collecting rare and magical books.

I love books. They are so reliable, you can always count on them to spill their knowledge.

They are just there waiting for you. "Come pick me up" they say. Go ahead. Do it. You won't regret it.

I promise you that the truth and beauty you find in them will accompany you through life.

I hope this pictures inspire your week, they have already inspired mine! Check out my book inspired artwork this Thursday and my special giveaway on Wednesday! :)
